“Why would anyone carry an 80 lb ten-foot wood beam cross more than 5-miles early on a cold spring morning? Carrying the cross for me has been a profound way to silence myself and reflect on Jesus as I enter Holy Week. Early morning on the White Pine Trail is quiet. As the sun begins to warn the earth it reminds me of the vibrancy of life. Carrying the cross is not easy to do alone. You simply cannot do it for long without needing to give it to someone else. This too reminds me of how we need to rely on Jesus and those He has given us to share the load, in our families, our parish and with others in the faith. ”
