GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A new scholarship will support families’ investment in Catholic education in the Diocese of Grand Rapids. Beginning fall 2020, every kindergartner, 6th grader, and 9th grader in the diocese’s 31 Catholic schools will be eligible for the Faith & Future Scholarship, worth $100 toward tuition. There is also a bonus of $50 if the student completed 5th or 8th grade at one of the diocese’s Catholic schools, for a total possible scholarship value of up to $150.

The scholarship announcement comes during Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 26-Feb. 1, a nationwide event celebrating Catholic education. The announcement was made at the diocese’s annual Catholic Schools Week Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew on Jan. 28, with student representatives from Catholic schools around the diocese in attendance.

To receive the Faith & Future Scholarship, parents of future kindergartners, 6th graders, and 9th graders must complete the scholarship application , and subscribe to the CatholicSchools4U.org blog and to the weekly newsletter from digital safety experts Protect Young Eyes , a community partner of Catholic schools in the diocese.

Along with the Faith & Future Scholarship, the diocese also announced a drawing to give away one year of free tuition to one kindergartner, one 6th grader, and one 9th grader in fall 2020. Families who complete their enrollment and meet the other Faith & Future Scholarship requirements by April 30, 2020, will be automatically entered in the giveaway. The winners will be selected in a random drawing.

Other scholarships at the diocesan, parish, and school levels also support families’ investment in Catholic education, including need-based scholarships.

“I am grateful every day to the families who choose Catholic schools, and the Faith & Future Scholarship is another way the Diocese of Grand Rapids partners with families to provide this inspiring education to their children,” said David Faber, superintendent of Catholic schools in the diocese. “An education centered in Christ offers outcomes that are second to none.”

Learn more about Catholic schools in the Diocese of Grand Rapids at CatholicSchools4U.org . Catholic schools in the Diocese of Grand Rapids are an alliance of 31 vibrant learning communities (26 elementary and five high schools) serving more than 6,340 preschool through 12 th grade students throughout West Michigan. Our schools inspire young people to grow in Catholic faith and grace, achieve more in school and life, develop creativity and character, and feel welcomed and cherished for their unique gifts. We partner with parents to awaken the whole child to a world of light and life — that grows better and brighter when children reach their potential.

We are excited to once again offer the opportunity to sing with men throughout the Diocese of Grand Rapids for the Building a Legacy Catholic Men’s Conference on Saturday, March 14. We are forming a Men’s Choir to sing throughout the day of the conference, including Mass. This is a unique way to join with other men to lift your voice to God in prayer and praise. All men are welcome. We will be singing traditional choral music – but no prior choral experience is necessary.

In order to prepare for this choir, there will be four rehearsals offered beginning in February. The rehearsals will be offered on Monday evenings – February 10, February 17, March 2 and March 9 from 6:00pm-7:15pm in the Cathedral of Saint Andrew. The rehearsals will be in the Cathedral. We will have music and folders for all who come to rehearsal. It is the hope that all singers will make at least three of the rehearsals in order to feel very prepared to sing their best in the choir.

Any questions? Contact Deacon Dennis Rybicki at drybicki@dioceseofgrandrapids.org.

Join RENEW on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land

October 12 to 22, 2020
Dear RENEW Friend and Supporter,
Please join Fr. Anthony Randazzo, pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, New Jersey, and me on our special pilgrimage to the Holy Land from October 12 to October 22, 2020. We’ll visit Nazareth, take a boat ride on the sea of Galilee, go to Cana, pray at the Mount of Olives and the Garden of Gethsemane in Jerusalem, and explore Bethlehem.

As your spiritual guides and fellow pilgrims, Father Anthony and I have built time into our journey that allows room for grace and spiritual renewal. Our pilgrimage will include celebrations of the Eucharist, prayer, sightseeing, faith-sharing and conversations with peace-making leaders in Israel. Pilgrims will even have the option to walk part of the Jesus trail.

This pilgrimage promises to be a life-changing encounter with the transforming love of God. I hope you can join us for this special journey. Spaces are limited so reserve soon.
