Coronavirus Update

We have received questions from a number of you expressing concern about what impact, if any, Governor Whitmer’s most recent executive orders, 2020-160 and 2020-161, issued Wednesday may have on the celebration of public Masses.

The changes in capacity restrictions outlined in Executive Order 2020-160 do not change diocesan norms for resuming public Masses issued May 19 and the norms for parish life issued June 4 and July 29. The executive order changes capacity restrictions in the northern portion of the lower peninsula and the upper peninsula (Regions 6 and 8). For our region, Region 2, indoor gatherings remain capped at 10 people. Diocesan guidelines cap outdoor parish programming at 25 people.

Consistent with previous orders, section 14 of 2020-160 states that “neither a place of religious worship nor its owner is subject to penalty under section 17 of this order for allowing religious worship at such place. No individual is subject to penalty under section 17 of this order for engaging in religious worship at a place of religious worship.”

Our current directives and guidelines, issued on May 19, remain in effect.  Please visit the parish website to review the current directives.

At Home VBS

With the uncertainty of these present times, we unfortunately had to postpone our in-person Vacation Bible School. After discussing options with our amazing VBS committee, we have decided to offer an at-home, simplified VBS to our parish!

You are invited to join our OLC family for an at-home VBS honoring the Sacred Heart of Jesus! Sign up at the link below to receive your free packet of materials for the week of August 10 (though you are welcome to use the materials in whatever way works for your family!) Pick up will begin after August 4. You will receive more details after signing up.

If you have any questions, please contact the Faith Formation Office at 616-866-2577 or reply to this email. God bless you and your families.

We are praying for you. Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!
