Dear OLC Community,
It has been a joy to see the recent growth of the OLC community: the pews filling up at Masses; the school enrollment is growing; and faith formation programs are expanding. The majority of this growth comes from families, especially those with young children. We are working hard to give these families opportunities to deepen their faith and relationship with Christ, which starts with prayer.
With my approval, the OLC School Spiritual Growth Committee will advertise Family Adoration. Family Adoration is when we welcome families with young children to draw closer to Jesus through prayer in the Adoration Chapel. Although children are always welcome in the Chapel, this time is encouraged if families cannot pray in total silence. Family Adoration is advertised on Mondays and Fridays from 3-4 p.m. The main sanctuary (church) will be open during this hour for individuals who want to maintain complete silence.
During Adoration, please use reverence. Enter and leave the chapel by genuflecting. Try your best to maintain a calm space. Sit or kneel facing Our Lord. You are encouraged to bring reading materials, rosaries, or other quiet resources for prayer. Please be aware of other adorers; those praying quietly, and those children who may not practice total silence. Kindness and understanding are key (they are also virtues!). The main sanctuary (church) will be open for individuals who want to maintain complete silence.
Remember that the way we welcome children into a prayer space directly affects their
faith, the way they respond to the Church, to Christ, and to one another. Let them know
that they are at home in this sacred space. Help them want to come back to Adoration.
“Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” -Matthew 19:14
Sincerely Yours In Christ,
