Bulletin and Advertising Guidelines

At Our Lady of Consolation, we strive to maintain consistency and clarity in our bulletin and other communication channels. In order to achieve this, please review the guidelines below. All final content and advertising decisions are up to the discretion of the Director of Communications or another staff member acting as the bulletin editor.

Our Lady of Consolation Church reserves the right not to publish articles related to political or social topics, or articles deemed inaccurate or not appropriate for publication. The bulletin is not the medium to share these opinions. Our Lady of Consolation strives to share accurate church teachings to help lead one another to a life of holiness with Jesus Christ.

Content submitted for an advertisement request can be either a flyer/graphic or plain text. Please see the general guidelines and specific requirements for your desired content submission.

  1. Requests must be at least 10 days before the desired publication date. If you want to be in the January 12th bulletin, you must submit your request by January 2nd. Special feasts or holidays required an advanced submission of a total of 15 days. Because bulletin request come in high demands during different seasons, we can never guarantee your desired publication date.
  2. Every event must have a title, date, and description. Include the name or logo of the ministry/group/organization in the advertising request.
  3. Advertisements may run for 1-2 consecutive weeks unless given submission has requested an extended timeline.
  4. Priority will be given to Our Lady of Consolation Parish, School, and Faith Formation departments, then to ministries/groups associate with OLC, followed by external groups/organizations.
  5. Similar Events/Groups Across Parishes: To avoid confusion and maintain clarity for parishioners, we do not typically advertise events or groups at other parishes/locations if they are similar in nature to events or groups being hosted at our own parish (e.g., seasonal events like craft shows, summer picnics, etc.).
  6. Fundraising or events that require are fee will be limited. OLC Parish tries to stray from continuous ask of parishioners’ donations and instead focus on Weekly Offertory, USCCB-wide collections, and Special Project needs (e.g., Confessional Fund, building maintenance, annual Giving Tuesday campaign, etc.).
  7. All submissions will be included in the bulletin, weekly email, and social media channels for communication unless otherwise specified or at the discretion of OLC.
  8. All submissions must include a name and contact email attached to it that will appear in the bulletin. This will default to whoever submits the article request unless otherwise specified.
  1. If an event requires registration or needs more info, we can create a a QR code and page on our website to expand the details or include a digital sign up. This request requires an extended submission-to-publication time.
  2. Limit your description to a single paragraph of 100 words or less. Consider limiting description copy in the bulletin and providing additional details on our website. If copy exceeds the limit, your copy may be edited to fit within the limit without notice.
  3. All text submissions will be printed in a uniform font, size, and color. Any font choices included in submitted content will be modified to meet our requirements.
  1. If you want us to create a graphic or it does not match our church’s style, our parish staff would be happy to work with you to create one that best meets your vision. Please keep in mind that artwork requests require an extended submission-to-publication time.
  2. Graphics/flyers should be submitted in image format (.png or .jpg) with as high resolution as possible. Image sizes will be displayed in the bulletin as either 1/4 page (4x5in) or 1/6 page (4×3.25in). It is best practice to submit your artwork in one of these sizes, otherwise the bulletin editor will manually adjust as needed. Clipart and AI-generated imagery are not accepted. Any copyrighted images must be licensed for use in print or online publishing. If you are unsure about your content, send it to us and we will let you know if it’s acceptable.
  3. BEST ADVICE: share your canva file with the artwork submission. This is the easiest way for us to edit your design as needed!

If submitted content does not meet the requirements of these guidelines, OLC reserves the right to alter content to meet guidelines or reject it. These bulletin guidelines are subject to be changed at any time without notice. Send questions to atownshend@olcparish.net
