St. Michael the Archangel…
Beginning the weekend, the St. Michael the Archangel prayer will be moved to its proper place.
This devotional prayer was created and mandated by Pope Leo XIII in 1886, and removed as a requirement after Vatican II in 1965. The OLC community began praying it before the final blessing when Fr. Tony was Pastor, as both Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis encouraged Catholics to begin this devotion again. However, it was never intended to be prayed “within” the Mass.
Therefore, beginning this weekend (September 6-7), we will pray the St. Michael prayer after the announcements and the Final Blessing. In silence, Father Dominic and the deacon(s) will meet the Altar Servers at the front of the Sanctuary steps. They will face the tabernacle, and then we will recite the St. Michael prayer together. The recessional hymn will follow immediately after the prayer.
